What is Reiki?

Reiki is a very simple process of energy transfer which can produce quite profound effects. Reiki has a way of finding you when you need it most, often a major transition in life triggers the Reiki calling. Whether you are going through some big changes, looking to develop your spiritual practice, or just seeking a way to relax from the daily stresses of life Reiki can help in many ways.

The word Reiki (ray-key) is made of two Japanese words - Rei which means "Higher Power" and Ki which is "life force energy". So Reiki is actually "spiritually guided life force energy." When our life force energy is low we are more likely to get sick and feel stressed, but if it is high we are more capable of feeling happy and healthy.

Benefits of Reiki
Reiki promotes harmony and balance. It restores balance on all levels, mentally and physically, and works directly on the problem and condition instead of just masking or relieving symptoms. It works to dissolves energy blocks and bring about a calmer, lighter and more peaceful sense of being.

Reiki creates a space for you to be more aware of what’s going on inside your body and mind, which brings you into the present moment, unlocking inner wisdom. Reiki quickly resets the body back to its natural state, which means your breathing, heart rate and blood pressure improve. It helps to promotes relaxation which encourages deep and restful sleep, it is common to even fall asleep during a Reiki session.

On a physical level Reiki helps to relieve pain from headaches, migraine, arthritis, sciatica, just to name a few. It also helps with symptoms of asthma, chronic fatigue, menopause, and insomnia. Reiki assists with cleansing, removal of toxins, and aids the immune system. We spend so much time in stress induced fight/flight that our bodies literally forget how to return to balance. Reiki reminds our bodies how to shift into parasympathetic nervous system self-healing mode.

Reiki is safe and wonderfully supportive for mother and child during pregnancy. Reiki is suitable for everyone, there are no known contra-indications for Reiki. It is a safe, natural and non intrusive therapy which can be used alongside medicial and other complimentary therapies to promote recovery.

Reiki is also helpful at end of life, it can be a great source of comfort and a bring a sense of peace and acceptance for the dying and their families.

How does Distance Reiki work?
Reiki can be sent to someone across town, or as far away as on the other side of the world. No distance is too large, and the effectiveness is just as powerful as in person.
Reiki practitioners use the distance Reiki symbol to create a spiritual bridge, when the symbol is invoked it allows the practitioner to send healing Reiki energy across time and space.

Distance Reiki works according to Hermetic Law of Similarity, an ancient principle which states that we are all connected. As we are all made of energy and part of a larger whole invoking this law during a distance Reiki session allows the practitioner to link up to the energy field of the recipient.
The energy the client receives assists them in healing on all levels - physical, mental and emotional. You may feel different sensations and experience a healing reaction just as you would from an in person treatment.

Personally I like to see a photo of my client before a distance Reiki session as the eyes especially help form that energetic link with you to be able to scan the body, balance the chakras and send the healing Reiki energy.
What does Reiki feel like?
Everyone experiences Reiki in a different way depending on individual needs and how you are feeling at the time. Each session can be completely different also.

Sometimes you feel lots of sensations, other times you may not feel much at all. Either way the Reiki is still working for you. Some people feel warmth, heat, tingling, some see colours and visions, some experience feelings of an emotional releases or energetic shift. Many find Reiki to be deeply relaxing, and you can often feel lighter, brighter and more positive following a session.
